Happy 4th of July

Hello St. Francis.
This week we celebrate the 4th of July and we give thanks to God for our country and the freedoms it allows us, we would be remiss not to also pray for peace and equality throughout the entire world.  As Pope Francis says, it is our call to bring food to the hungry, freedom to the prisoner and a voice to the oppressed.  So, as we celebrate, let us also pray for peace.

Here are your links to this week's music.  Enjoy.

Music for June 27-28

Hi St. Francis.
I can't help but mention that your voices are getting more and more beautiful each week.  You are filling the church with praise and there is nothing that makes me as a Music Director happier!!!
I ask you to consider filling our worship with your talents to an even larger scale.  Do you play an instrument?  Come and join us.  No locked in schedules, no long term commitments, just pray with us in song when your schedule allows.  Seems simple enough...right?  It is!!!  Especially during the summer months, we are looking to continue to diversify the music experience at SFDS.  Give it a try.  It may be the answer to the question of how you can increase your faith.  It may just be an opportunity to meet some new friends.  What I can promise is that you will certainly get as much out of your time as you put in...with your parish family and with God.
See You Soon.

Gloria and Memorial Acclamation

St. Francis Singers,
This week we will be introducing a new Memorial Acclamation.  During the Easter season we used Memorial Acclamation C.  As we transition into the summer months of Ordinary Time, we will use Memorial Acclamation A.  We Proclaim Your Death, O Lord, and Profess Your Resurrection, Until You Come Again.

Also, we will begin to used the "through composed" Gloria.  That means we will not have a repeated refrain.  The words to all of the verses will be printed in the worship aid and we encourage you to sing the whole thing.  Below is a link to the "through composed" version.

Gloria - Through Composed

Music for Father's Day Weekend

Hi St. Francis!!!
What a special week.  Being a dad as they say is a reward in itself.  That statement is very true.  It is the center of my life's vocation and the reality that leads me and every dad to be more selfless and loving.  To our dads, never be afraid to show your children your heart.  Show them it is alright to express your emotions and show them how much you love them everyday...even those days when we drag ourselves home after a long day.
If you are lucky enough to have your dad around, remind him that you appreciate the things he did and continues to do and be for you.  If your dad is like mine, he spent a lot of time away from home working so that my mother could be our nurturer.  When I was a child it was hard to understand, but as a father myself now, I get it.  There are no words to describe the love I have for my children and I know that my dad feels the same way about me.
Happy Father's Day to everyone who stepped up in that role in our lives.  We are all so proud to be called your child and can only hope to be all we are called to be to our children.
God Bless.

Music News and Notes for the week mo June 8 - 14

Hello St. Francis.

The parish is so excited to be hosting the Newark Boys Chorus on Thursday, June 11th at 7:00 as they present the concert "Think of Me! Forget Me Not!  We invite you to come this Thursday evening and be inspired by beautiful music and amazing young men.  Any support and donation you can make to defray the cost of the concert is a appreciated.

This week is the last week of the season for the "Formal" Choir.  They will be around during the summer and will keep singing when they can on Sunday throughout the summer.  I can not express how grateful I am for all of the hard work, dedication and support they have given to me and to the Parish.  We will be back and working again in September.  I hope that you will consider joining our group of singers.  No previous experience necessary.  Give it a try, you will find a group of incredible people who are there to grow in their relationship with God and the Parish community.  We have some fun too!!!

See you all on Thursday and then this weekend.  Have a safe and blessed week.  Remember, we are the children of God and He loves us  ALL THE TIME!!!

Music for The Feast of Corpus Christi (June 6th and 7th)

Dear St. Francis,
This week we celebrate the gift of the Body and Blood of Jesus.  We celebrate the Eucharist and we celebrate the amazing selfless sacrifice of Jesus.  I am often asked by people about my own personal faith.  I always say that my relationship with Jesus is not based on a philosophical ideology of an all powerful deity but in the way Jesus lived as a human being.  I was once told that the way to connect with Jesus is by trying in my own life what he lived.  It is not an easy thing to do but when I do live like Jesus, I find myself to be much more joy filled and at peace.  We can look at the Eucharist in may ways.  I choose to see it this way.  The very last thing Jesus did before he walked the road to his crucifixion was to give his friends a gift.  That kind of selflessness and love for his brothers and sisters is what I aspire to live like.  Every time I receive Jesus in the Eucharist, I remember his choice to love us more than any fear, jealousy or hatred.  It is because of this gift that we are called together into community to commemorate his love.  Jesus, the man will always be the aspiration I work to live up to.  He is the gift that keeps on giving!!!.  Please enjoy the musical selections for this week.  Pray that we will all become more aware of Jesus' selflessness and then strive to be more like Him who feeds us.
